Orchards Junior School

Year 4

Welcome from Miss McCue - Year Leader

We have been super excited and very busy planning lots of fun lessons for your children!

Year 4 Rewards: Fab Awards

Every half term, two outstanding children from each class will be selected for the Year 4 Fab Award. This special award is given to those who have demonstrated kindness and hard work throughout the term.

The lucky children will receive their very own Fab 4 Badge and will be invited to an exciting pizza party at the end of the year!

Additionally, we have a super special Year Leader Fab Award determined by our wonderful Mrs Figg, the Head of Year 4. This award goes to one exceptional student from Year 4 who has consistently showcased fantastic behaviour this year.

Homework in Year 4:  Homework Grid

Roald Dahl Homework

The homework grid contains a variety of activities. You only need to pick one per week to complete, and each of them is worth a different amount of Dojo Points … the harder the activity, the more Dojo Points you could earn!

When you have completed your homework, ask you parent/carer to send a picture of your homework to your teacher on Class Dojo, or via their email address. We cannot accept paper copies coming into school at this present time.

Your children should now have a reading log available to them. Below you will find some information related to how these can be used.

How to use the reading logs:

We would like the children to read to someone at home five times a week and have their reading log signed by someone at home each time they have read. If they have five signatures, they will receive a reading raffle ticket which will hopefully then be drawn out in our weekly raffle draw- to win an awesome new book!

To keep things simple, we would like you to send a picture of the reading logs via your class dojo for your teachers to see and any homework tasks could be sent the same way please.

Could you also inform the class teacher if the children have had five signatures in their reading log at home in order to get their raffle ticket.

Please don’t hesitate to contact myself or your class teacher for any further questions.

Dress Up Days: Aspirations Day

We hold a special off-timetable day focused on our PSHE topic: Aspirations.

As part of the day, we would like to encourage children to reflect on their hopes and dreams for the future. To help bring this theme to life, we invite all pupils to come dressed as what they would like to be when they grow up.

Day Trips:

Newhaven Fort Trip:

We are very excited to offer our Year 4 pupils a trip to Newhaven Fort in March. This is to support our History topic based on World War Two and will give the children the opportunity to find out what life was like back then.

 Knockhatch Adventure Park:

Our Year 4 pupils a trip to Knock Adventure Park in July.  This is to support our Science curriculum about Habitats and will give the children the opportunity to observe a number of animals and their habitats close up.

Year 4 Residential: Windmill Hill

We offer our Year 4 children the exciting opportunity of a residential visit to Windmill Hill Outdoor Activity Centre, East Sussex in the Spring Term.

In previous years, our children have had the fantastic experience of trying out a range of outdoor activities such as raft building, abseiling and climbing.
